We have been contacted by Claire Green from the Biodiverse Society Project. She is keen to get Lancashire Moth Group members involved in recording at various identified sites during 20216 and beyond. Here is what she says:
To introduce myself, I am Claire Green, Sarah Gorman’s replacement as Lancashire Project Officer for the Biodiverse Society project.
I am delighted to announce that we now have details of the local wildlife sites we hope to survey in Lancashire for 2016.
We will be holding biological recording days out on many of these sites throughout the season. These are opportunities for volunteers new to biological recording to get out on site and practice their skills, with the support of other more experienced recorders and surveyors. It is also hoped to be a way to introduce new volunteers to local naturalist groups and a chance engage new members to the groups. We will also be holding monthly volunteer taster days, each with a different theme to allow people an introduction to the wonderful world of species recording!
I am very interested in how the Lancashire Moth Group may be interested in engaging with these dates and with the project in 2016. Would it be possible that group members may be interested in coming out on some of our sites to informally share the wealth of their knowledge and skills with other less experienced volunteers? Or maybe to come out and help us survey a specific species or range of species independently, which would be equally valuable. It is my hope that if group members are able to be present at some of these days it will hopefully also provide a really good opportunity for the group to recruit and engage some enthusiastic new members!
With this in mind I the dates are attached
If people are interested in coming along and getting involved on the sites, if they could get in touch and let me know directly at email@example.com. If they are not able to make that date but would still like to be involved with the site, if they could also let me know and we may be able to arrange an alternative option.
Our trainee placements will be also out on the day carrying out habitat mapping and phase one surveying of the site. Other species surveys on the day will be dependent on which experienced volunteers we have present who are willing and able to share their knowledge.
I have also attached a full list of sites for this year for information. We will not be holding volunteer days on some of these, as we are awaiting permissions or access is a little more complicated. However, if group members may be interested in getting out to any of these independently, if they could let me know directly and we can arrange something with them
